12022560_701453269954908_3190028632861547848_o Being a musician since childhood, Matthew Petry got his start in the visual arts when he pursued an Associates of Arts studying the traditional fine arts which broadly included drawing, painting, ceramics, digital photography, 2D , 3D design, and digital art. Recently he has transitioned into creating animated short films as he pursues his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Kansas City Art Institute. As a fine artist, he strives to create animated short films that exist as self-contained fine artworks.

Evident by his work, Matthew Petry is passionate about 3d interactive animation, non-traditional storytelling, and fostering a sense of play and curiosity. He focuses on creating work that combines his background in fine arts with his newly developed mentalities as a filmmaker all while being reinforced by a long history as an improvisational stage musician. Beginning with traditional hand-drawn animation and then moving into 3d computer animation, Matthew Petry strives to widen his skill sets to include interactive VR animation with the hopes of reinterpreting what a video game can be.
